Falling Stones

Master-Studio”Abgehobene Architektur” SS2015 – Vienna University of Technology

Team: with Tunanaz Kirim

CONCEPT
Like stones falling down from an oversized human hand, individual cell bodies, are leveled on the ground and create interesting interstices and overlays. Through the stacking we gradually lift ourselves off the ground and take advantage of the
„air space“.

LOCATION
In the next step, we raise these cells above the water surface of the historic city of Venice and use the water to dive in the cells and let them „swim“. Here, the ensamble serves as an extension and linkage of existing shores. From now on, the gondola guides with their gondolas meander through the interstices of these new structures.

STRUCTURE
Each cell consists of a closed triangular organized steel structure. Further supports lead from the upper to the lower nodes. Spaceframes for the ceilings are used as shear resistent levels, as well as to bridge the spans.
