Crateroid

A large-scale district of Singapore was chosen, to be replaced by a new city structure – with same density and much more qualities regarding the light conditions, green areas etc. In the process, a structure has been developed, that is topographically terracing to the top – the smaller the yard, the lower the surrounding buildings (consistent light conditions). The resulting roof landscape is also largely planted. Finally, the new created structure created reminds of a green „crater landscape“ which gives this project the title „Crateroid“.

The motorized individual transport of the settlement follows the neighborhood unit road principle. The branching roads „branch out“ and end up in a turning circle, which at the same time forms the entrance to the underground car park. The entire ground floor zone has double room height and is used for public functions such as work, services, etc. Above that are the residential functions.

The vertical circulation takes place at the junctions in form of vertical air spaces with stairs and elevators. In the area of the nodes that do not go vertically down to the ground, shifted staircases are arranged.
The horizontal access of the mainly as duplex designed apartments is ensured through external walkways.

The ramps of the roofscape serve as enlivening and multifunctional elements. Depending on the gradient, they can serve as, additional access, hiking trails, ski slopes, water slides or climbing walls.

The apartments are mainly duplexes, which either lead from the external corridor into a full storey above or below. In order to create the offset, either single-storey apartments are placed in the corridor level or in the 1st floor (for public functions).  The apartments are designed flexibly, allowing to connect individual rooms or even entire apartments. In order to bring a lot of light into the apartment, the surrounding balconies have light openings, that also partially reach into the interior space. Depending on whether the maisonette leads from the corridor level up or down – the light opening is located above or in the same level. Finally, this creates lively and vaired facade.
